Choosing Ice Delivery For Your New Bar

Posted on

A small neighborhood bar can be a fun meeting place, but unless you're purposefully going for a stereotypical dive-bar look, you want the location and the drinks to be as nice as possible. Small details, like the ice you use in drinks, can really make your bar look professionally run and clean. When you arrange for ice delivery, don't settle for just the plain cubes you could make in your home's freezer. Instead, look at different sizes and shapes — and be sure the ice for drinks is clear.

Larger Sizes Mean Less Dilution

Ice for your drinks should be on the larger size. While you should make sure a cube will fit in the glasses you use, consider using one or two larger cubes rather than four smaller cubes in a wide glass. The more cubes you have in there, the more surface area there is overall for the ice, and that means more melting and more water going into the drink. A larger cube might look like it could push more water into the drink, but the surface area will be smaller. If someone lets the entire cube melt, they'd have a problem, but if they enjoy their drink at a normal pace, the total amount of water mixing with the drink should be less.

You Can Get Custom-Carved Ice

There are many ice designs out there. However, they might not really be what you had in mind for a special occasion. Many ice delivery companies also have custom ice creation — not just ice sculptures, although they do offer those — but custom cubes, spheres, and other shapes. This might not be something you have on hand all the time, but if you have a special night coming up, such as New Year's, you might look into this option. Do contact the ice delivery company as soon as possible, though, because delivery times fill up fast.

Clear Ice Looks Better

The clarity of the ice cubes is not an indicator of how pure or clean the ice is. The cloudiness you see in many basic ice cubes has more to do with cracks from fast freezing and the inclusion of air bubbles. Still, clear ice looks better in drinks; the typical cloudy cube brings to mind sodas in paper cups and lazy summer weekends, which are nice, but not the image you want people to have as they drink your carefully crafted cocktails. Many ice delivery companies offer clear ice for drinks and the more basic cloudy cubes for coolers and storage.

Contact an ice provider to arrange for holiday deliveries and to see what will be offered for next year. Don't let this little detail go — ice may seem small, but it's something that could give customers a good impression of your bar. Contact an ice delivery service to learn more.
